CLASS: Modern Ekphrasis: From Fairytales to Fandom

In “Modern Ekphrasis: From Fairytales to Fandom,” we will explore writing through the lens of ekphrasis, a literary form that melds the visual and the verbal. In this session, students will explore how authors (and you!!) can craft prose inspired by various mediums– from famous art to myths; locales to tropes; fairytales to fandoms. Ekphrasis is a literary tradition that can engage the imagination, encourages creativity, and deepens our appreciation for the interplay of words and images.

CLASS: Scene as Sacred Space

“Scene as Sacred Space” is a resource for scene-building in dramatic writing developed by Brendon Alekseii (also known as Brendon O’Brien). It was adapted by Keir Alekseii for fiction and novel-writing. Rooted in Caribbean cultural understanding, this new mechanic for developing scenes calls writers to think not only of what brings characters together in a space, but how the space/setting itself informs action and character possibilities.
