A Free,Virtual writing retreat

WriteHive Lite

Sept 30 - Oct 1, 2023

About the Retreat

WriteHive Lite is a FREE, virtual writing retreat held annually in October. During the two-day event, attendees have the opportunity to connect with other serious writers, hone their craft, and receive expert instruction from professional editors. It’s also perfect for writers who need a set time to sit and focus on writing or revising. You do not need a finished manuscript to apply! Writers are welcome no matter where they are in the process.

The WriteHive Lite writing retreat is open to all who apply. There will be four editor-led classes during the weekend. Time will be set aside for writing or revising sprints as well. Forty applicants will be chosen by the editors to receive a personal 30-minute consultation, which can be on craft questions, brainstorming, 5-page critiques, or answering industry questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is involved in the application process?

All interested writers will need to register to participate in the WriteHive Lite retreat. The application will request your contact information, writing goals, and which editor you’d like to work with during the retreat. Selected participants must be able to commit to writing most of the weekend of October 1-2 and participate in coaching classes with our editors.

For a chance to participate in a one-on-one session with an editor, please fill out the “Editor Consult Application.” If you’re selected, you’ll be asked to provide information about your specific project, any plans to publish, and areas you’d like to work on in your editor one-on-one. If you’re submitting 5 pages for the editor to review, you’ll be asked to send it in at this time.

When will the one-on-one editor selections be made?

Participants will be notified of their editor consultation by late September. Those who were not selected will be put on a waitlist in case of cancelations.

How do authors participate in the WriteHive Lite Retreat?

The WriteHive Lite Retreat will take place virtually, primarily on Discord. Collaboration may also occur in Google Docs for sharing work and editing remarks. There will be two classes a day with dedicated writing time or sprints between them. There will also be opportunities to share some of what was written or edited, as well as a listening party where you can share your favorite writing music with the group.
