What makes our program different?
Mentorships are available for all publishing paths (trad, self, small press, serialization, etc). Rather than organize our mentorships by genre, we're focusing on where you're aiming for your writing career. Each mentor still has created a unique wishlist for the types of stories and career paths they're looking to mentor. However, submissions will be sent to all mentors, so be sure to label your market (A/NA/YA/MG), genre, and preferred publishing path on your submissions.
-
If I win a mentorship, what will I get?
Each mentor will be going over the mentee's manuscript at least once for a full edit. Feedback will be given in the form of in-line feedback or edit letter. Beyond that, any further guidance/edits will be on a mentor-by-mentor basis.
-
How long is the mentorship program for? Will there be a showcase?
The program lasts at least 11 months, and there is no showcase to worry about. After mentor-mentee matches are announced in early December, matched teams can begin work right away. The relationship doesn't need to end at the beginning of the next round of mentorship though—we're hoping to see long-term relationships grow out of this program.
-
How can I get involved as a mentor?
We're so happy you're interested in volunteering! Our mentor application for the 2023 Mentorship Program is currently open. If you'd like to volunteer to be a mentor, please fill out the following form. [applications currently closed]

I was just a mentee and learned a ton. Can I be a mentor now?
We’re so glad you had a great mentorship experience. We will not be selecting past mentees as mentors until at least one year has passed from their mentorship. This allows past mentees to fully digest and apply their new skills before passing them on to someone new.
-
How many mentors can I submit to? What do I need to have ready?
There is no mentor selection. Each mentee hopeful's submission is sent to our pool of mentors. Have your complete manuscript ready, and fill out the Mentee Application, including your submission package, which consists of your full manuscript, your query or back-of-book blurb, and your synopsis.
-
I was selected! Now what?
Chosen mentees will receive an onboarding email including a timeline, mentor expectations, a link to the mentee-only Discord (where you can talk with peers about the experience), and resources for how to reach out / who to contact if there’s conflicts or concerns. Your mentor will be your point of contact for the rest of the period beyond these resources.
-
Do I HAVE to write a synopsis?
Yes, but don't stress over it! It doesn't need to be query-ready, it's just to help give the mentors an idea of what the rest of the book contains. Try to keep it to a single page (single spaced) in length.
-
What will my MS be used for?
Your MS will only be available to this year’s mentors and admin, and used to help mentors determine which applicant they can best help.
Mentee Registration is CLOSED
Mentee announcements will go live late January.
Thank you to everyone who applied!
Mentors are now hard at work reading through your submission packages.
Stay tuned for Mentee Announcements on January 1st, 2024.
