WriteHive Mentorship Program
#HiveMentor
WriteHive is excited to announce another way to break down barriers in publishing. Our Mentorship Program has various mentorships available for all publishing paths (trad, self, small press, serialization, etc).
Mentee hopefuls must have a complete manuscript. In the application form, you will be asked to provide a submission package—including your full manuscript, a query letter or book blurb, and a 1-page synopsis.

What makes our program different?
Our mentorships are available for all publishing paths (trad, self, small press, serialization, etc). Rather than organize our mentorships by genre, we keep our focus on your aim for your writing career. Each mentor has a Manuscript Wishlist, so be sure to look through the mentor profiles thoroughly to find one who matches both your genre and your preferred path to publishing.
How can I get involved as a mentor?
We’re so happy you’re interested in volunteering! Mentor applications open in early fall. If you missed this year’s application, no worries. Stay-turned for future mentor announcements.
How long is the mentorship program for? Will there be a showcase?
The program lasts at least 11 months, and there is no showcase to worry about. After mentor-mentee pairs are announced on January 1, matched teams can begin work right away. The relationship doesn’t need to end at the beginning of the next round of mentorship though—we hope to see long-term relationships grow out of this program.
What materials do I need to submit?
You must have your complete manuscript ready, and fill out the Mentee Application (when submissions open), including your submission package. The Submission Package consists of your full manuscript or short story collection (if applicable), a query or back-of-book blurb, and the synopsis.
Do I HAVE to write a synopsis?
Yes, but don’t stress over it! It doesn’t need to be query-ready, it’s just to help give the mentors an idea of what the rest of the book contains. Try to keep it to a single page (single spaced) in length.
What happens after I submit my manuscript?
All submissions are accessible by all mentors. Each mentor will read submissions for several weeks to help narrow down the potential list of mentees. The last week of December, mentors will submit their picks to the administrative team, and on January 1st, mentor-mentee pairs will be announced on the website and on social media.
What happens if two mentors want the same manuscript?
Each mentor selects multiple choices, including a preferred manuscript and runner up. When two mentors choose the same preferred manuscript, they enter into a friendly discussion to resolve who will be the best fit for the author and their story.
What if there’s a mentor I don’t want to work with?
If you believe a particular mentor is not the best fit for your story, you can notify the admin team during the submission window at contact@writehive.org.
If I win a mentorship, what will I get?
Each mentor will be going over their mentee’s manuscript at least once for a full edit. Feedback will be given in the form of in-line feedback or a developmental edit letter. Beyond that, any further guidance/edits will be on a mentor-by-mentor basis.
I was selected! Now what?
Chosen mentees will receive an onboarding email from the WriteHive team including a timeline, mentor expectations, a link to the mentee-only Discord (where you can talk with peers about the experience), and resources for how to reach out / who to contact if there’s conflicts or concerns. Your mentor will also contact you on how to get started—and be your point of contact for the rest of the period beyond these resources.
Mentee Registration is CLOSED
Mentee announcements will go live late January.
Thank you to everyone who applied!
Mentors are now hard at work reading through your submission packages.
Stay tuned for Mentee Announcements on January 1st, 2024.
