Mentor Bio

Bringing their own experiences as a marginalized author to the page with flawed but genuine characters, O.E. Tearmann’s work has been described as “Firefly for the dystopian genre.”

Tearmann is a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America, the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, a finalist for the Cygnus award and the winner of the 2022 Feathered Quill award. They live in Colorado with two cats, their partner, and the belief that individuals can make humanity better through small actions. In their spare time, they teach workshops on writing GLTBQ characters, plant gardens that showcase sustainable agricultural practices, and play too many video games.

Mentorship Expectations

I’d love to help a younger LGBT person who’s unsure about getting their work out there feel confident in finding their feet and finding their way to tell a story. I’m good with the young people, the anxious types and the wallflowers, because that was me not so long ago. If you have a younger person who needs an older cousin to give them some support, that’s me.

I’m happy to do three rounds of edits and a monthly in-person sit down in any month but May and June (I’m a landscaper and am not very available in those months)

I’m a big fan of the hopeful and affirming arcs. I’m not a good choice for grimdark.
