J. also works as a freelance web developer and graphic designer on a broad range of client projects. Her next book, The Mountain and the Moon, releases in 2024.

Mentorship Expectations

Every writer has a story; I want to help you tell yours. My goal through this mentorship is to be supportive and help your story thrive. We’ll work closely together as I coach you on story elements, publishing paths, and how to place your book in the best market for the genre.

Manuscript Wishlist

I’m desperate for second world science fiction or science fiction horror. I want all the dark, weird and twisted worlds, villains and creatures, and vengeful romance nuzzled into your world. If you have SCIENCE FICTION HORROR on DERELICT STARSHIPS we will be best friends. I need all the creepy, weird, villainous vibes trapped inside cold steel.

I’m also a huge junkie for genre mashups, so if you have a fantasy world long forgotten inside a starship, I wants.

Give me anything:

  • ADULT/NEW ADULT
  • Science fiction (I prefer portal or second world)
  • Fantasy – I’ll take it all, but would love to see some darker worlds and plotlines
  • Horror (in space or on another world)
  • Space Western – think Firefly
  • Villainous romance – okay with erotic/spicy sex
  • Diverse casts (LGBTQA+, BIPOC, Disabled, OwnVoices)

Or mash them all up together in one big stew. I want to feel the creepfest of a tense moment, or be on the bridge of a starship as it heads for disaster.

Here are some of my favorite stories: Myst trilogy, Beyond Redemption, Event Horizon, the Donovan series, The Eyes of Light and Darkness, Beneath the Shadow Dark.

Erotic sex scenes are absolutely okay. I’m fine with all forms of trauma as long as it serves the story. The exception here is any dark deeds aimed at children or child death–it’s a hard no for me.

Not a fit for:

  • YA/MG
  • Angels & demons / Urban Fantasy
  • Contemporary or contemporary fantasy
  • Historical fiction
  • Women’s fiction
  • Contemporary romance
  • – If more than 50% of the story is on Earth, it’s not for me.
