Mentor Bio

A.Z. Louise is a lover of birds, a writer of words, and a believer in the healing powers of peppermint tea. After leaving their job as a civil engineer, they have been writing speculative short fiction and poetry, which can be found at azlouise.com.

A.Z. is the author of two novellas, Off-Time Jive and A Concrete Crown: MacBeth Retold, the latter written under the pen name T.O. Tate. They also have a middle grade novel currently in the works, but can’t say much more than that at the moment!

Mentorship Expectations

I’m looking to help give someone the final push they’re looking for! I work best with those who know their strengths and weaknesses and how they prefer to receive their critique, whether that’s gentle, harsh, or somewhere in between. Anyone who likes a checklist or even a spreadsheet is probably a good fit.

Manuscript Wishlist

I would love to hear from marginalized writers from all walks of life but especially neurodivergent Black writers! I’m also very interested in books by older authors.

I’m open to adult and middle grade of almost every genre.

My exceptions are paranormal romance, Christian romance, and litRPG, as I know nothing about those genres and won’t be able to help with them. I do need content warnings for emetophobia.

Things I love and want to see in adult are:

  • Queer stories
  • Fast-paced fantasy and sci fi
  • Romance across the board (only one bed and slow burn always get me).
  • For middle grade, I also love:
    • queer stories
    • Stories about neurodivergent kids
    • Big, bold fantasy
    • Cozy horror

If the book has been accused of too weird, horny, violent, or genre-bending, I’m on board.
