Brenda LaTorre is a Mexico City native, author of BRUJA’S NEST, coming out in 2026. Her stories have found a home in different places such as Pyre Magazine, BDA Publishing Anthology, the Collective Visions anthology, and more.
She holds an MFA from the University of Southern Maine and a Creative Writing Certificate from UCSD. She was Editor of Popular Fiction in the Stonecoast Review Magazine in 2024.
My ideal mentee will be open to feedback and eager to learn. They also have to be open to the possibility that maybe their writing isn’t where they think it is, and that is fine, it’s fixable.
I usually offer notes and comments on the writing, and then I like to have at least a couple of zoom calls. We can also revise outlines, work on short stories, or read queries in the meantime, if that’s what the mentee requires.
I like reading entire manuscripts. I don’t mind if we don’t see each other for a gap of three months after the revisions, but I rather not read small excerpts, since it’s hard to give constructive feedback that way. (I need to see the changes in the story arc as a whole).
